Treatment Plan Made Me Cry

These last two weeks have consisted of lots of waiting, crafting and a fun girls trip. After determining my cancer had spread to two of my lymph nodes, the tissue was sent to a lab in California. The doctor advised the results of the further evaluation would take two weeks. The results came back on Wed of last week.

I spent the two weeks crafting to keep my mind off the potential treatment. Would it be chemo, radiation, or more testing to see how far it had spread? Here are a few items I made. The process of creating these allowed me to focus on the craft and not the possible results from the California lab.

We met with the oncologist on Tuesday and he explained the potential treatment after discussing the treatment I received during my previous cancer in 2001. I will definitely be on estrogen blockers for the rest of my life. The results of the lab test will determine if I need chemo. On Wednesday, I received a call from him telling me the results. My results came back with the statistical findings that 5% of women with my status would develop cancer again in 5 years. That meant 95% would not! Chemo would not make a difference in my treatment. Woohoo!!!!! That meant just radiation and estrogen blockers. I cried after hanging up and jumped into my husband’s arms to be held. Even though I was prepared for chemo, I knew what a toll it took on my husband last time and I was relieved to not be a burden to him. I had no idea of chemo had put so much pressure on me, until I received the call.

I also took a short girls trip to Charlotte, NC. We had a wonderful time at our Magnolia Design Celebration. We crafted. We Celebrated our Creator Family. We had LOADS of fun. We met new friends. We received great training from experts in the social media field. We came home tired.

This week I meet with the Radiation Oncologist to determine when I start my treatments. Also, my husband is preparing for surgery this month for his macular hole. It will be a challenging 3 days after surgery, but we will make it through that as well.
