Even though I love sleeping in, I love to wake to the smell of coffee brewing. I look forward to the first sip. When my husband and I both worked, he would wake first, get showered and then bring be a cup of coffee. What a wonderful way to be awaken, a good morning kiss and a cup of coffee on the night stand. I looked forward to it every night when I went to sleep.

Since I no longer am required to awake at a certain time, my husband lets me sleep in, so no coffee on the night stand. (I still get a little kiss before he leaves for work!)  So what do I look forward to when I wake up now?  I look forward to signing on to my computer and seeing how my business has grown while I slept. I look forward to helping others, and I look forward to communicating with my friends, either by phone, in person, or via Facebook/email.

Connecting to others is important to all of us. We need the connection to feel a part of something. Whether that something is being a grandma, a business partner, a good friend, or a care provider, the connection makes us feel a part of something bigger than we are. And yes, it also helps us to see value in who we are.

When I was in high school, I was one of the goodie-goodie kids. I always tried to do things that were correct and things that would not cause the neighbors to talk. After all, when I did something less than perfect, my mom’s favorite question was “What would the neighbors think?”  I missed out on “living” quite a few of  my high school years.  I also missed out expanding my network of friends. How do I know this? Many of us have reconnected via Facebook. We have lots of things in common, and if I had been willing to step out of my comfort zone, we probably could have become friends back then.

Now I drink my first cup of coffee with friends, either via email, early morning chats,  texts, or Facebook.  Taking the time to enjoy your coffee and friends is very important.  In fact, I have just started my second cup while composing this blog, and hopefully, it will help me make even more friends.

If a friend, a relative, or an acquaintance comes to mind during the day, make contact with them as soon as possible. They might need to hear a friendly voice, or you might need to hear theirs.

Make every day a great day!

I have been self-employed and working from home for a long time, and it is great! Even though the money might not be “quite enough” at times, it does not matter, because a person can always adjust their spending accordingly. The freedom of working for yourself is fantastic.

What are your thoughts?
