The other morning, I arrived at church a little early and heard a song that was new to me. The lyrics spoke about how we would react if Jesus showed up at our house unexpectedly and stayed a few days. This really touched me. Okay, if you know me well, you will also know another song influenced me to feed/adopt a stray animal on Christmas Eve two different years, just in case I was being tested. The song is an old Christmas song about Jesus coming to the door 3 times on Christmas Eve, sang by Reba McIntyre.
There has been many times in the past where I would not have been standing at the door with open arms if Jesus come calling. While visiting with friends on Easter and interacting with other people thru the week, I stopped several times to consider if I would have done anything differently if Jesus was sitting beside me. While I am far from perfect, I think He could have forgiven my slips. When we think about it, He is right beside us all the time. As a Christian, I am not expected to be perfect, but I am forgiven. I encourage you this week to think about what you would do, if Jesus came to your house.
What Would You Do (If Jesus Came To Your House) Lyrics
(Hugh Ashley – Lois Blanchard) Porter Wagoner & Norma Jean
What would you do, what would you do
If Jesus came to spend some time with you?
If Jesus came to your house to spend a day or two
If he came unexpectedly I wonder what you’d do
When you saw him comin’ would you meet him at the door
With arms outstretched and welcome to your heavenly visitor.
Or would you need to change some things before you let him in
Like burn some magazines and put the Bible where they’d been
Oh, I know you’d give your nicest room to such a honored guest.
And all the food that you’d serve to him would be the very best
And you’d keep assuring him that you was glad to have him there
That serving him in your home was a joy beyond compare
But what about your family conversation would it keep up its normal pace
And would you find it hard each meal to say a table grace.
Would you be glad to have him stay forever on and on
Or would you sigh of great relief when finally he had gone
You know it might be interesting to know the things you’d do
If Jesus came in person to spend some time with you.
What would you do, what would you do
If Jesus came to spend some time with you…
